Shy to Strong: The Evolution of a Confident

Aaron Kendall Wilson       October 01, 2024

Before I understood the power of my shyness, I worried that it would hold me back in the modeling world. I tried imitating confident models and practicing my poses, but I still needed to prepare. But here's what I discovered: your shyness can be a hidden strength in modeling.

The belief that you must be naturally confident to succeed can stifle your growth. But starting shy can allow you to develop an authentic, quiet confidence that's all your own. This introspection often leads to a deeper connection with the camera, creating a unique and compelling presence. Audiences and photographers are drawn to models who exude genuine, relatable energy - and your journey from shyness to strength can make your presence feel real and captivating.

Rather than seeing your shyness as a limitation, view it as the foundation for true confidence. Use it to bring depth to your poses and be mindful of your movements. Your willingness to grow and discover yourself can lead to powerful moments that set you apart. While doing this, seek growth opportunities, such as working with different photographers, taking runway classes, or finding mentors who can guide you. For me, starting with smaller gigs and learning from experienced models helped transform my shyness into a strong, quiet confidence.

Shyness doesn't have to be a disadvantage. It can be the key to unlocking your unique presence in the modeling world. Embrace it, let it fuel your authenticity, and watch as it opens doors you never imagined. I now walk into shoots confident, but at times can still be shy, I let my personality shine and I try to connect with each photographer I work with. From there we always seem to get the perfect shot, and have fun while doing it!

Remember, though dreams may seem out of reach, they too are reaching out for you.
