We've lost sight of what truly makes a leader great. We've become so focused on the end goal, the destination, that we've forgotten the most important part of the journey: the people. I recall a conversation I had with a remarkable leader, Staff Sergeant (SSG) Sutton, who embodied the qualities of a true leader. He didn't just lead his platoon; he understood them. He took the time to ask questions, to listen, and to understand what drove them. He invested in them. This is what sets great leaders apart. They understand that their people are not just a means to an end; they are the end. They are the reason we lead. And when we invest in them, when we take the time to understand them, we inspire them to do their best work. This is not a transactional relationship; it's a transformational one. We're not just asking for their obedience; we're earning their trust. We're not just giving them orders; we're inspiring them to take ownership. So, let's rethink what it means to be a leader. Let's put our people first. Let's invest in them, listen to them, and inspire them.
